Balance out your coffee table library with a couple of new titles that look back into history and forward to the future. First is Charles Beddington's Canaletto in England. As Canaletto's work became increasingly sought-after by English travelers to Italy, he made his first visit to England in 1746, staying for nine years and portraying such landmarks as London's St. Paul's Cathedral (above, left). Next up, and a little further from home, is landscape photographer Jim Bell's Postcards from Mars—a collection of 150 of the first artistic photographs from "the red planet." While Bell's custom-designed camera provided invaluable research for NASA, we're glad to see he found time for a self-portrait (above, right) using the remotely controlled shutter.
