OPTIMUS MAXIMUS KEYBOARD... NO, WAIT, KEEP READING
Introducing our favorite non-iPhone gadget of 2007. Design studio Art Lebedev is accepting pre-orders for its Optimus Maximus computer keyboard. Each of the Maximus' 113 keys is a miniature OLED display, making every key entirely dynamic and customizable. Hold down 'Shift' and every key becomes capitalized; preview font styles or re-map every key to suit your application. Night hawks shouldn't fear the dark either, as the Maximus packs an ambient light sensor, dimming and raising each tiny screen's brightness depending on the surrounding conditions. Pre-orders have begun, and with an asking price of $1,500 a pop, the first reported cases of keyboard envy have appeared. Go to www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus

MIRANDA JULY & FRIENDS
Miranda July is bringing me, you, and a couple of people she knows to the New York Public Library, this Friday, May 25. July will read from her recently published collection of short stories, No One Belongs Here More Than You, and open questions to the floor. A short performance of songs from Lavender Diamond singer Becky Stark will follow, before Talking Heads founder David Byrne turns the tables and interviews July. Be alert: audience participation is promised, as always. Pre-sale tickets are sold out, but the NYPL is making tickets available at the door. 7 p.m., at the NYPL, Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, New York. Go to www.nypl.org

TAPPING INTO TRACE BUNDY
You've heard of guitar heroes, fret wizards, and axe shredders, but how about an acoustic ninja? Meet Trace Bundy, a Colorado-based finger tapper, whose karate-quick hands dance up and down the guitar's fretboard, sometimes in perfect unison, often as 'dueling ninjas,' the base line and melody sparring in an epic battle. A video of Trace performing his jaw-dropping version of Pachelbel's 'Canon' was a hit on YouTube a while back, and loyal fans keep his shows packed and his albums on heavy rotation. We just caught Trace on the tail end of an East Coast tour, but he's got more summer dates lined up across the country, so be sure to check him out. Just watch out for flying ninja stars. Buy Trace Bundy's Adapt CD/DVD on iTunes or Amazon.com, or go to www.tracebundy.com for tour dates.
