THE LIST: Recent Releases

01 Returning in rhinestone, the White Stripes' highly anticipated sixth album, Icky Thump, is available this week. Catch them on their North American tour throughout the summer. Purchase from iTunes or Amazon. Go to www.whitestripes.com

02 Lowering the tempo a little, the UK's James Chapman, AKA Maps, has taken the electronic space-rock sound to new levels—but not using computers! The one-man-show cut We Can Create by hand on a vintage 16-track—meaning listening to the result is most certainly a more relaxing effort than its making. Purchase from iTunes or Amazon. Go to www.mapsmusic.com

03 Never one to let McCartney get all the media buzz, the solo works of John Lennon see a revival this month with Instant Karma, a compilation raising money to save Darfur. Highs include Green Day tackling 'Working Class Hero' and the Postal Service's interpretation of 'Grow Old With Me,' though Avril Lavigne's attempt at 'Imagine' leaves a little to be desired. Purchase from iTunes or Amazon. Go to www.instantkarma.org

04 Another blast from the past emerges in We Are The Night, the new album from electronic legends The Chemical Brothers. While their best work remains in their back catalog, you could do worse than find your summer dance anthem here. Purchase from Amazon. Go to www.thechemicalbrothers.com

And you should look the part too.

Serving as inspiration to fans and band members alike, Amber Easby and Henry Oliver's The Art of the Band T-Shirt gives decade-by-decade insight into that faded rock 'n' roll memorabilia at the bottom of your drawers. Highlights include vintage Elvis tour shirts, and a plethora of Rolling Stones threads. You might want to dust yours off too—some of these shirts can fetch three figures on eBay. Don't believe us? In issue 43 of CITY, writer Brian DeLeeuw searched New York for the perfect vintage heavy-metal T-shirt. Read the story here. $11, from Amazon.
