Vol. 4, Issue 12

HIT THE ROAD JACK

Tired of your old jalopy breaking down every block and a half? Take a drive over to the New York International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center March 21-30 to scope out next year's most luxurious production models and forward-thinking concept vehicles—and maybe your new ride. Audi will show its R8 TDI Le Mans diesel-powered concept car (above), based on last year's Audi R8 (which is sold out for the next two years). The company will also unveil a custom-painted Audi A5 sports coupe created by New York artist Hunt Slonem. The one-of-a-kind Slonem-designed car will be auctioned off later this year to benefit Denise Rich’s G&P Foundation, which encourages the development of more effective therapies for patients with cancer. Other new rides to look out for include BMW's four-dour coupe CS concept (watch out Porsche) and Mercedes Benz's environmentally conscious clean diesel Bluetec SUVs. SHOOT CITY MAGAZINE'S NEXT TRAVEL ISSUE COVER

Admit it: On your last vacation you took that one perfect photo—a picture so beautiful, so stunning that you still swear it's good enough for the cover of a travel magazine. Well here's your chance to prove yourself. CITY's second-annual ONE CITY, MANY DESTINATIONS travel photography contest boasts the ultimate grand prize: CITY’s cover shot. Amateur and professional photographers from around the world are invited to submit for juried competition images that best capture a unique moment in the life of a city or other travel destination. A jury of internationally renowned photography and travel aficionados will pick one winning image to appear on the cover of CITY’s Fall ’08 Travel issue, on sale September 30, 2008.

The grand-prize winner will also receive a prize package that includes an all-inclusive, week-long trip for two to Austria. The Austrian Tourist Office will pick up the tab on the whole experience—from round-trip airfare to rooms at luxury hotels to dinner at the top restaurants in Vienna, Salzburg, and wherever else your journey might take you. The best part? While in Austria, the grand-prize winner will have the opportunity to shoot a sponsored-editorial travel photography story for CITY's 2009 Spring Travel issue.
The work of 15 additional finalists will appear in a special travel photography portfolio inside CITY’s Fall ’08 Travel issue. All finalists will win additional prizes. Last year, CITY received more than 4,000 entries to the inaugural contest, with New York–based photographer Konstantino Hatzissaros’ stunning image of two Burmese monks (above) winning the coveted spot on CITY’s cover.

CITY PRESENTS SPRING TRAVEL

CITY's new Spring Travel issue hits newsstands everywhere this week, so pack your bags and enjoy a sweet escape around the globe. First stop: Milan for the world's largest design/furniture fair, Salone Internazionale del Mobile. Next, grab a bite at some of the best international-cuisine restaurants in Prague and then relax at a traditional Turkish bath, or hamam, in cities around the Mediterranean. After that, join renowned travel photographer Frédéric Lagrange as he and his camera head east (and north and south) to bring CITY a portfolio of stunning images from around the world. Circle back around to the West and we’ll give you a first look at Guanacaste, Costa Rica's new travel gold coast, before heading stateside to learn about Colorado’s best warm-weather festivals, Nashville's emerging gallery scene, and the lesser-known luxurious side of the Florida Keys.

Also in the new issue, two directors discuss the changing face of New York as they prepare to unveil their Gotham-centric documentaries at next month's Tribeca Film Festival; author Tom Dolby offers a peek inside his eclectic West Village digs; and we round up the best places to be pampered at spas across the country. Sweet escape indeed.
